Sustainable practices
At Popunnderwear, we strive to produce quality underwear that you will enjoy wearing while being mindful of our ecological footprint and the people around us.
Our production process
We are proud to say that all of our classic models, namely those in solid colors, are made in Montreal. This choice allows us to contribute to the local economy of Quebec by collaborating with a local company and seamstresses. By choosing a production workshop close to our office (very very close!), we limit the distance traveled to ship goods. Result? These short trips produce few greenhouse gases! Obviously, producing locally has a higher financial cost than internationally, but we want to keep a significant quantity of underwear made here at the same price to do our environmental and social part.
As for the Funky models, we work with a factory in China with remarkable experience in the textile industry. It holds the GOTS certification, Global Organic Textile Standard, which ensures compliance with environmental standards. Indeed, this certification guarantees the use of organic fibers, the banning of chemicals in dyeing, textile processing and clothing manufacturing. It also regulates certain social standards to ensure the well-being of workers. For example, child labor is prohibited, employees' wages must comply with established national standards, overtime is paid, etc.
Printing
To apply our designs to our products, we use sublimation. Much more ecological, this technique consists of printing an image on a fabric using heat. Did you know that on average, 100 to 150 liters of water are needed to dye one liter of fabric? Sublimation uses much less water and does not use chemicals like screen printing does, for example. The colors are more saturated and are more resistant to washing. It is therefore a winning solution for you and for the environment!
Minimal packaging
To reduce the environmental impact of transport, our suppliers send us our orders in a group, i.e. in a single shipment. The items are not individually packaged, but collectively protected by plastic film. For the delivery of customer packages, we wrap our underwear (products?) in tissue paper. This material is 100% recyclable and biodegradable and uses only a small amount of fiber to be manufactured.
Bamboo
Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants; it therefore tends to overgrow. The trunk of this plant contains antibacterial substances that allow it to defend itself against insects and fungi. It therefore does not require any pesticides to ensure its growth. In addition, bamboo requires four times less water than cotton. Thanks to its plant origin, its fiber is biodegradable. Bamboo is a more durable and resistant material than cotton. The products have a longer lifespan, which reduces product consumption.
Unsold items
Underwear that does not meet our sales standards is donated to a municipal organization. This way we avoid throwing away usable, albeit imperfect, pieces unnecessarily.
